In 2025 the PEI Soccer Association began a new initiative for referee's called the Pink Shirt Referee. It was designed for younger athletes in mind to be able to take the course and with it be able to referee especially at the under 9 and under 11 age level. The club will be hosting a course in preparation for this summer on May 2nd at Hernewood Intermediate from 9:30 to 3:00 pm as we really want to expand our number of referees in the club.
To register for this course please email Brian at allainbrian@hotmail.com as we need to have at least 6 registered in order to be able to put on the course. The course is open to any soccer players (girls or boys) who are born in the years 2011, 2012 and 2013. Upon completion of the course they would be certified to referee in the club at the Under 7 and Under 9 age level where we plan to have community teams take part in a weekly game at Hernewood. They would also be certified to referee at the Under 11 age level where we are hoping to have multiple teams in 2026.
We are also the only club on PEI that assigns assistant referee's (lines) for the Under 11, Under 13 age levels as it is not required but we as a club decided years ago that we wanted to improve the game experience for our teams so we are willing to pay for assistants at these age levels even if it does come at a significant cost to the club over the course of the summer.
We pay $20 a game for Under 7 & Under 9 and $30 a game for Under 11. For assistant referee's you can make $20 per game at Under 11 and $25 per game at Under 13 so it is a great way to make a few dollars for a young soccer player thru the summer.
Nick Murray from PEI Soccer will be up on May 2nd to oversee the course and if there are any course fees the club will pick up the cost of those fees. If you are interested in taking place please email Brian by April 25th so he can let Nick know how many attendees to expect.
