Hi everyone,
*** Please accept our apologies if you continue to get duplicate emails for the next couple of weeks - we will be sending out emails to the players who have played in 2023 as well as those who have registered in 2024.
This update has a REVISED listing of upcoming tryouts for all of our youth teams. Please try to attend all sessions when possible. Also, please see below for information on the chance to take the referee course this summer and make a few extra dollars.
Please continue to spread the word that players NEED to be registered in order to attend any of the upcoming tryouts, this is also to cover them for any insurance issues. Payments can be figured out after the teams are selected but if you do not register then there is a chance you will not be included in the team list for tryouts.
We will soon need to declare with PEI Soccer which teams we think we will be able to field for the upcoming summer for the competitive age levels (u11, u13, u15, u18 and senior) so we really need to get a firm handle on how many players are trying out at each of the age groups. Final decisions on teams will not be taking place for a little while as we are hoping to get outside by the end of the month, but it is very important that players who are hoping to play this summer get registered and get out to any of the sessions that they possibly can make.

*** Program Update - Under 9 and Under 11 Boys as well as Under 9 and Under 11 Girls ***
As we have had a lot of inquiries on our younger ages, especially under 9, we thought we would try to put together a bit of information for everyone. PEI Soccer’s first age group for organized leagues is Under 11, there is NO organized league for the under 9 age group across the Island. We can look at trying to work with Summerside and Kensington and see whether an inter-club under 9 program could be established but there is no guarantee of that and to be honest - without PEI Soccer overseeing it, we are a little nervous whether it could work or not.
For now, we are going to do the following - allow the under 9’s to try out with the under 11’s as we know there is a desire amongst a lot of parents in the community to play a more structured schedule. Once we see what numbers are like overall, we will decide whether we can submit one team or two teams for the under 11 league. The cost for anyone who makes it to an Under 11 team would be $200, whether they are under 11 age or under 9 age. After this time we will see what the best route for the Under 9's might be and will do our best to provide the best program possible for that age as well as all of our age groups.
Referee course 2024:
PEI Soccer is hoping to grow the referee base that we have on the Island for this upcoming summer. It is a great way to make some extra money and the club has always supported its referees in the fact that we are the only club on the Island that tries to assign 3 referees to every game, 1 in the middle and 2 on the lines or at the very least a 2 person referee system for games.
The referee association has also increased the fees this summer for referee payments so even if you are only interested in doing lines for games and don't want to go in the middle, that may be an option as well and you would get paid very well.
The course is going to be set up a little differently as well this year - the first section of the course will be done online and then when that is completed, we will make arrangements for someone to come up and do the practical/on field session with everyone to finish the certification process. There is a chance that there may be a small fee to take the course, potentially $10. As well I believe the referee association is looking at putting together a package for those who take course where for $25 they can get their jersey, whistle and cards for the summer which is a great price if it in fact does take place.
The fee's we pay for games are as follows:
Under 11 - $30 for the referee, $20 for the assistant referees on the line
Under 13 - $35 for the referee, $25 for the assistant referees on the line
Under 15 - $50 for the referee, $30 for the assistant referees on the line
Under 18 - $60 for the referee, $40 for the assistant referees on the line
Senior - $70 for the referee, $45 for the assistant referees on the line
As you can see, it would not take a whole lot of games to add up to a few dollars for anyone who would like to take part.
To register for the upcoming course and get all information needed, please reach out asap to Nick Murray with the PEI Soccer Association at nickmurray@peisoccer.com and he will get you set up.
